Maximizing your productivity

Notejoy is designed from the ground up to be fast. But not just in terms of the performance of the app, but also in terms of making you as productive as possible as you capture, organize, search, and share notes. Let's walk through some of the features designed specifically for maximizing your productivity in Notejoy.

Keyboard shortcuts & markdown

When you're in the flow, it's vital to capture all of the key information and details as quickly as possible. In addition to a clean and fast editor that makes it easy for you to focus on the content, not the formatting, Notejoy also makes it easy with keyboard shortcuts and markdown.

Notejoy's keyboard shortcuts make it easy for you to do things like create a new note, format headers, and go back and forth between notes all without having your fingers leave the keyboard. In addition to this, Notejoy even supports markdown syntax for applying formatting. Fast and simple ways to apply formatting saves a significant amount of time, and is often faster than just using a word processor or jumping back and forth to the toolbar when you're trying to get your best work done.

Focus view

When it's important to focus on the content of one note at a time, Notejoy's focus view can really come in handy. Focus view expands the note to be full screen, hiding the list of libraries and notebooks as well as the note list. To activate it, click the icon in the top right corner of a note.

Focus view comes in handy when you want to sit down and concentrate on one note without the clutter of viewing your other notebooks and notes. And, it also comes in handy when you want to project it on a screen and share it with teammates! Sometimes teams will use focus view in meetings when they are all jointly editing a note together, with one computer projecting and multiple participants viewing and editing at the same time.

New window

Similarly, you can open any note in its own window simply by double-clicking on it in the note list. This is a great way to quickly launch an individual note in focus view. But also a great way to get multiple notes open side-by-side for easy reference and copy/pasting.

Quick find

If you know exactly what note or action you have in mind, sometimes you want to be able to just quickly jump to it without having to run a search or use your mouse. Quick find is our solution to helping you maximize your productivity by getting to the content you're looking for faster.

Quick find is an incredibly fast way to jump to content and actions in Notejoy. To activate it, press Cmd+J (Mac) or Ctrl+J (Windows). Then just start typing a few characters for what you are looking for. You'll immediately see results show up that match your query. You can use the up & down arrows to get to the right result and then just press enter to jump directly to it.

Drag & drop

Notejoy not only tries to make you exceptionally productive with your keyboard, but also with your mouse by supporting drag & drop wherever possible. Here are the different ways you can drag & drop to accomplish a task in Notejoy:

  • Drag images onto the editor to upload & attach them to the note
  • Drag documents onto the editor to upload & attach them to the note

  • Drag a notebook to a different library to move it
  • Drag a notebook to a different location to re-order it
  • Drag a notebook on top of another notebook to nest it
  • Drag a library to another location to re-order it

Bulk actions

Notejoy makes it easy for you to select multiple notes in the notes list and perform a variety of actions, including moving, deleting, tagging, or archiving them.

To select multiple notes:

  • Hold down Cmd (Mac) or Ctrl (Windows) while you click on additional notes. Each additional note will be added to your selection.
  • If you wish to select all notes between your currently selected note and another note, hold Shift while you click on the additional note.

Once selected, you can:

  • Drag the notes into a notebook to move them
  • Drag the notes into the Trash to delete them
  • Drag the notes over a tag to tag them
  • Right-click the notes and select archive to archive them
  • Right-click the notes and select delete to delete them

Offline access

Notejoy's offline access helps ensure that regardless of your internet connectivity and where you go, you can always continue to capture, view, and edit your notes and seamlessly sync them when your connection returns.

But what's equally great about offline access is that it makes everything in Notejoy much faster because all notes and views are first loaded from your locally stored copy and then the server is checked to see if there are any updates. This makes it just that much quicker to get to exactly what you are looking for.

Insert date & time

You can use a shortcut to quickly insert the current date & time into a note body. Just hit Cmd+Shift+D (Mac) or Ctrl+Shift+D (Windows) to insert the current date. Hit it a second time and it will also add the current time.

The formats are:

  • 4/30/2019
  • 4/30/2019 10:00 am

This is often useful in notes tracking project plans, progress, reflections, journal entries, and so much more.

Paste without formatting

Notejoy supports paste without formatting when you don't want to maintain any styles from your pasted text. Just hit Cmd+Shift+V (Mac) or Ctrl+Shift+V (Windows) or just right-click and select Paste w/o Formatting in Notejoy's desktop apps.
